Message of Love - Band of Gypsys

Often credited as Jimi Hendrix and the Album called Band of Gypsys, except that at the time the act was billed as Band of Gypsys.  This is not Jimi Hendrix Experience (backed by Noel Redding on Bass and Mitch Mitchell on Drums).  Instead, this is from the New Year’s ‘69/’70 shows at the Fillmore East and the lineup is Billy Cox on Bass and Buddy Miles on Drums.  That may seem like a subtle distinction to most, but the formula of Band of Gypsys made for a much tighter rhythm section that ties down the insanity of Hendrix’s guitar (whereas the Experience often sounds as spaced out and messy as Hendrix).  It’s really a great example of Hendrix’s roots when he was playing around the Chitlin circuit before he made it big.  The whole original album, and subsequent release of the rest of the show are just amazing.  Definitely worth repeated listening.
